Chai MP3 Recorder

Privacy Policy

Chai MP3 Recorder records only when you press record, saves recording-quality WAV audio to your Chai cloud account, and lets you download an MP3 copy.

1. What the extension does

The extension records microphone audio only when the user presses record. When the user stops recording, the extension uploads a WAV copy to Chai cloud storage and can create an MP3 file for the user to download.

Chai MP3 Recorder requires a Chai account for cloud upload, privacy controls, training-consent withdrawal, and cloud-recording deletion.

2. Data we collect

  • Microphone recordings and raw audio only after the user presses record.
  • Account email, account id, cloud session state, consent choices, participant-consent confirmation, and optional AI-training choice.
  • Recording metadata, such as filename, content type, byte length, SHA-256 hash, sample rate, recording time, upload status, and recorder install id.
  • Limited product analytics events sent through Chai cloud systems without recording audio, transcripts, filenames, storage paths, account email, or auth tokens.
  • Support information only if the user emails Chai for help.

3. Data we do not collect

  • Browsing history, tabs, page content, documents, search history, bookmarks, or unrelated website data.
  • Contacts, messages, calendars, payment details, government IDs, precise location, or keystrokes.
  • Audio before the user starts recording or after the user stops recording.

4. How data is used

Audio is uploaded to the Chai cloud for the signed-in account. If the user chooses to allow AI training, Chai may use raw audio and derived transcripts, labels, features, quality signals, and evaluation examples to train and improve Chai AI models.

If the user chooses cloud storage only, extension recordings are not used for AI training. Chai does not sell extension data, transfer it to data brokers, or use it for personalized advertising.

5. Participant consent

Before recording, the user must confirm all meeting participants were told the recording will be uploaded to Chai and that it may be used for AI training if the user opts in. Do not record unless all participants have given the consent required for recording, cloud upload, and the selected training choice.

6. Storage, processors, and deletion

Cloud recordings, metadata, and consent records are stored in Chai cloud systems using Supabase. Product analytics events are sent through Supabase to PostHog. MP3 downloads remain wherever the user saves them in Chrome.

Users can change future consent, withdraw training consent for uploaded extension recordings, delete cloud recordings, revoke access, and clear queued local upload retries. Withdrawing training consent marks uploaded extension recordings as no longer eligible for future Chai training runs, but may not remove information from model checkpoints already trained before withdrawal.

7. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The current extension does not request Google Workspace API data.
